This is one of the earliest thought pieces by NEERMAN on how CSR sector can adopt a P6 approach – achieve triple bottom line profit-people-planet through public-private-partnerships. P6 approach translates into four actions. First, generate the demand for products that can improve social welfare. It takes dedicated social marketing and behaviour change campaigns. Second, modify an existing product or develop a new product(s) that most adequately meets the functional and aesthetic demand of the bottom of the pyramid segment. Drastic changes need not be made but focus on durability and ease of O&M is more critical. Third, improve access by improving and investing in the distribution and service network. bottom of the pyramid segment often prefers at-home or in-village delivery which can pose challenges to the traditional distribution chain. Fourth, create buying power through finance mechanisms. Bottom of the pyramid segment prefers smaller instalments over a longer period so role of micro-finance institutions or payments plan for goods and services becomes key.
