NEERMAN also collects qualitative data using in-depth interviews, key-informant interviews, observations, group discussion and workshops. The team for qualitative surveys is different because they need to be naturally inclined to dig deeper, break the mould and inquire outside of research boundaries if relevant, make respondent reveal what she wouldn’t otherwise. Our team is also adept at using audio and video recording, transcribing the information in Hindi or English, and then coding it all in Atlas-Ti as per the codes developed by lead researchers.
For example, we have helped IFPRI conduct in-depth interviews of Anganwadi workers, ASHA, ANM who provide nutrition services. We have also helped them in household level observations and discussions with beneficiaries of the programme, their husbands and in-laws. We have conducted key informant interviews with block and district level officials, and we have done time-work-process observation of front line workers.
